Sourdough Snacking Cookies

Sourdough Snacking Cookies

Sourdough snacking cookies are not only delicious but also a great way to reduce food waste by utilizing excess sourdough starter.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of your favorite mix-ins (chocolate chips, dried fruits, nuts, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the active sourdough starter until the dough is well incorporated.
  6. Finally, fold in your favorite mix-ins such as chocolate chips, dried fruits, or nuts.
  7. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 48 hours. The longer you proof the dough, the crispier the result!
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  11. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Enjoy your homemade sourdough snacking cookies!

Variations

Feel free to get creative with your sourdough snacking cookies by experimenting with different mix-ins. Try adding shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or even a sprinkle of sea salt on top for an extra flavor boost. You can also replace some of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour or incorporate oats for a heartier texture. Let your imagination run wild and customize your cookies to suit your taste!
